General Information

The Fermi LAT Collaboration Meeting will take place at the University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC) in the Earth and Marine Sciences (EMS) building.

The plenary sessions of the meeting will be held in room B206 in the EMS building with splinter sessions in nearby rooms (B210 and B214). Media information for the room used during the plenary sessions can be found here. Each of the other two rooms will be equipped with a projector. Check the section Where to Go Upon Arrival at UCSC for logistic information.

Morning and afternoon coffee breaks will be served in the lobby of the EMS building.

Lunches are included with registration, and will also be served in the lobby of the EMS building.

LAT Collaboration Meeting Registration and Payment Info

Registration Fee: (covers administrative costs, name-tags, lunches, morning and afternoon refreshments).

If you register:

Until 11:59pm (Pacific Time) on August 17^th, 2019: $150.00
On and after August 17^th, 2019: $175.00

Conference Dinner: (on September 11^th, 2019 appetizers and wine will be served at 6:30 pm, dinner will start at 7:00 pm) the cost of the dinner is $50.00 per person. Dinner fee has been raised to $65 on August 17^th. The Conference Dinner will be located at the Seymour Marine Discovery Center, part of the University's Long Marine Lab. There will be not trasnportation provided from the LAT collaboration meeting location to the dinner location.

Payment: Your registration is not considered complete until we have received your payment. Our preferred method of payment is via credit card, but if you are unable to pay for your registration via credit card, please email fermilat@ucsc.edu. We accept MasterCard, Visa and American Express credit cards.

Receipts: The online registration process will provide you with a printable receipt and an automated confirmation email after you finish registering. If requested, you can be provided with a printed registration receipt.

Parking inside the UCSC campus: It's possible to purchase one or more parking permits through the registration site. Details on where and when to pick the permits up can be found here.

Travel & Directions

Local airports:

San Jose International Airport (SJC) - Approximately 40 miles from UCSC
San Francisco International Airport (SFO) - Approximately 70 miles from UCSC
Monterey Regional Airport (MRY) - Approximately 45 miles from UCSC (limited service)

Getting to UCSC by Car:

Following are the directions to get to Santa Cruz by car, starting from each airport:

From SJC take Interstate 880 which becomes Highway 17 south to Santa Cruz, then Highway 1 north.
From SFO take Highway 101 south to Highway 85 south, to Highway 17 south to Santa Cruz, then Highway 1 north.
From MRY take Highway 1 north to Santa Cruz.

Following are the directions to get to the UCSC campus by car, starting from the Highway 1 north in Santa Cruz:

Once you are in Santa Cruz on Highway 1 north, continue as it becomes Mission Street through town. Turn right on Bay Street and follow it to the campus entrance.

Airport Shuttles to Santa Cruz:

Following is a partial listing of companies operate airport shuttles between the airports and Santa Cruz:

Santa Cruz Flyer: $45 from SJC and $60 from SFO, with fixed shuttle times
Santa Cruz Airport Shuttles: $55 for a shuttle from SJC and $85 from SFO (Extra $10 for each additional passenger)
Early Bird Shuttles: $100 from SJC and $140 from SFO (Extra $10 for each additional passenger after the first 3)

Buses from Santa Cruz to UCSC:

UCSC is very bus friendly. There are several Santa Cruz Metropolitan Transit District (Metro) buses that go to the campus including (but not limited to) 10,13,15,16,19,20. You will want to get off of the bus at the "College 9 and 10" stop, the bus will announce the stop upon arrival. Shuttles Within UCSC:

To get around the campus, UCSC offers a system of shuttles, also known as the Loop. Since the Fermi LAT Collaboration Meeting is being held during the UCSC Summer Intersession (September 3-20, 2019) the campus shuttles have a specific schedule. This schedule can be found at https://taps.ucsc.edu/pdf/summer-transit-2019-2nd-intersession.pdf.

During summer intersession, Loop buses run Monday through Friday:

Counterclockwise (east to west) buses depart from the Main Entrance and stop every 20 minutes, from 7:40am to 6:00pm at :00, :20, and :40.
Clockwise (west to east) buses depart from the Barn Theater and stop every 20 minutes, from 7:50am to 5:50pm at :10, :30, and :50.

Visa Information:

In order to travel to the United States for business, without a visa, you must qualify for entry under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP). If you qualify, you must also have authorization through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) prior to boarding a U.S. bound air carrier.

In case your country does not participate in the VWP, you will need to obtain a B-1 visa (for temporary business) in your passport before entering the United States. Please note that obtaining a visa stamp for travel to the United States can be a lengthy process, involving visits to a U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
