Transportation

Airports: The Monterey Regional Airport is a small airport with typically less than 20 arrivals/departures daily. The airport has connections to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Denver, Las Vegas and San Diego. It is ~ 2 miles (~3 km) to the Hyatt Hotel. San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is ~ 100 miles (~160 km) North of Monterey. San Jose International Airport (SJC) is ~75 miles (~120 km) North of Monterey.

Local Bus Service: we have arranged for local bus service in the evenings. Two 57-passengers buses will be available to shuttle attendees from the Hotel to downtown Monterey and Caramel each evening and the Aquarium on Wednesday for the reception.

See schedule.

The Monterey Airbus:  We recommend that you take the Monterey Airbus; it is the easiest and most cost-effective airport shuttle (including San Jose International airport and San Francisco International Airport) service to and from Monterey. They serve hotels, businesses and homes with door to door service. The shared ride and private vehicles carry passengers to and from airports and train stations. Private sedans do the same carrying up to 3 passengers. Fare quotes are available online in the reservation system. If you are not ready to make your reservation, please keep a Monterey Airbus schedule with you before your flight arrival. If you book your reservation online 24 hours in advance, you will automatically save $5.00 from normal rates. If you don’t have pre-reserved reservation, it will depend on the space availability.

Rental Car: If you decide to rent a car, drive to Monterey.

There are three routes to take from the north (San Francisco).

The fastest is 101 South to 156 West (near Prunedale) to Hwy 1 South. This route is about 120 miles and takes roughly two hours.

A second route travels a direct, yet partially twisty road towards Santa Cruz, then south to Monterey. Take 101 South to 85 South (San Jose area) to 17 South (Santa Cruz) to Hwy 1 South. Travel another 40 miles to Monterey. Hwy 17 can also be reached from Hwy 280. Take 880 South (San Jose area) and it will become Hwy 17. Follow this until it intersects with Hwy 1. Continue 40 miles on to Monterey. This route is about 115 miles and also takes roughly two hours.

The longest, yet most scenic route is Hwy 1 all the way from San Francisco. It is also about 120 miles, but the roads can be slow. Allow at least three hours for this journey.

The rush hour traffic in the bay area are more like 6-9 a.m., 3-7 p.m. for both San Jose and San Francisco directions. For car drivers, garage parking is available, and street parking is often free for periods of two hours on weekends and after 6 p.m. Many hotels offer parking for an additional charge.
