Weather

Like many California coastal towns, Monterey has spectacular weather year round. The average high temperature ranges from around 16° Celsius (60° Fahrenheit) in winter to 22° Celsius (72° Fahrenheit) during the summer months. Average annual precipitation is around 19.5 inches (495 mm), with most rainfall occurring during California's wet season between November and April, while little or no precipitation falls during the summer months. There is an average of 70 days with measurable precipitation annually.

Summers in Monterey are more likely to be cool and foggy. Spring and fall are clear and sunny, and the summer months bring romantic morning fog that encases the landscape, burning off to clear skies in the afternoon. Winter ushers in a welcome average rainfall of 17 inches per year. Morning and evenings are cooler, and sweatshirts or lightweight top layer are recommended for outdoor activities as it can cool off quickly once the sun goes down.
